Proposal on reclassifying Bumi properties not practical

NST 21/11/2003 By MOHD ZULKIFLI UMAR, Segamat

Nov 21:  I REFER to the suggestion by State Assemblyman Baharum Abdul Ghani that Bumiputera houses be reclassified as “International” upon completion of the sale and purchase agreement (NST, Nov 11).

This is so like many of us Bumiputeras — we keep demanding more and more.

These houses are cheaper than the others. So, obviously, they will be of a lower grade and quality.

Owners find that it is very difficult to sell these "Bumiputera" houses, and this is why Bumiputera properties have always been and always will be categorised as "second class".

We always try to make a whopping profit out of a sale. Now we want to be able to buy (maybe for cash) a Bumiputera house for, say RM30,000, sign the S&P agreement, expect it then to be automatically re-classified as an "International Lot" and then sell it for maybe twice that amount to a non-Bumiputera.

There are quite a few wealthy Bumiputeras who could make this a full-time business and thus become even wealthier.

And, given time, there would be no more Bumiputera houses as all will be sold.
