Amendment to pave way for
Housing Tribunal
13/01/2003 Daily Express
Kota Belud: The State Government has prepared the draft of the proposed
amendment to the Sabah Housing Developers (Control and Licensing) Enactment
1978 with a view to incorporating the requirement to set up a Housing
Tribunal.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said said Sunday
the draft was now in its final stage of polishing.
The establishment of a Housing Tribunal has been incorporated in the
amendment proposed for the enactmentÖthis is in line with the same
provisions implemented at the Federal level, he told reporters, here.
Earlier, Salleh, who is also the Kota Belud Umno division chief, attended a
meeting with Umno Executive Secretary Datuk Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who
is Minister in the Prime Ministers Department.
Salleh said the draft would be submitted to the State Attorney-General once
it was completed before being tabled to the State Cabinet for the go ahead.
He was responding to a recent statement by Housing and Local Government
Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting urging the State Governments to form housing
tribunals to arbitrate disputes between developers and house buyers.
The setting up of the tribunal followed the enforcement of the national
Housing Development Act last month.
The present enactment in Sabah does not have the provision to set up the
tribunal.
