PUTRAJAYA Nov 22 - Kuala Lumpur has 30 abandoned building projects
whose developers have sought government assistance in completing
them, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Bernard
Dompok said today.
He said the developers had cited financial problems and oversupply
of properties in the local market for failing to complete their
projects.
The developers gave their reasons to a special task force headed by
Dompok to study the problem of abandoned projects in the country.
"We will look at the problem the developers are facing and see how
the government can assist them in speeding up completion of these
projects," he said when briefing the media on abandoned buildings in
Kuala Lumpur.
Most of the abandoned projects identified by the task force involved
office and apartment blocks, hotel buildings and shopping complexes.
Dompok said the task force would focus on KL first before moving on
to other states.
He said the task force was set up by the government as it was
concerned over the security and safety of the buildings.
Dompok said to curb the oversupply problem in the market, especially
in the commercial property segment, the government had stopped
issuing permits to developers for commercial properties since early
this year.
At present, he said the government only encouraged the
implementation of residential projects.
