BANTING: The Housing Development Act drawn up to afford more protection to housebuyers will be gazetted on Feb 28, Deputy Housing and Local
Government Minister Datuk M. Kayveas said.
The Act, which had been earlier approved by Parliament, replaces the Housing Developers Act 1966.
Among other things, it provided for the setting up of a Housing Tribunal which would ensure that housebuyers did not fall victim to irresponsible
housing developers, he said yesterday.
“The tribunal will hear cases involving less than RM25,000 without bringing the matter to court for a settlement,” Kayveas told reporters after
presiding at the ground-breaking ceremony for a housing project at Batu 1, Jalan Jugra here.
The project, being developed by Taijuan Development Sdn Bhd, involves the construction of 31 double-storey terrace houses.
Kayveas said one of the problems often faced by housebuyers was that their houses were not completed on schedule.
He expressed the hope that once the Act was enforced, developers would be more responsible and not breach the conditions of the Sale and Purchase
Agreement. — Bernama |
