3,000 can now look forward to their dream home

PENANG: About 3,000 purchasers of the stalled Majestic Heights project need not wait long for their dream home to materialise as the company has
agreed to wind up.
Majestic Heights Sdn Bhd, represented by T.S. Liew, agreed to the winding-up order filed by 545 buyers of Majestic Heights Phase 1 apartments in
Paya Terubong before Justice Md Raus Sharif, when the case came up for hearing at the High Court on Monday.
The purchasers, represented by V. Rajadevan, informed the court that there were two applications for liquidators.
The judge later fixed Oct 16 to hear the application on the appointment of a liquidator to dissolve the company.
Launched in 1995, the project offers 2,955 housing units, 55 shoplots and 22 light industrial units.
The project hit a snag when the developer faced financial and management
problems in 1998.
Later at a press conference, adviser of Ad Hoc Committee (Phase 1) for
Taman Terubong Indah (Majestic Heights) Purchasers S.L. Chang said the
decision had set a precedent for the revival of the more than 600 stalled
projects in the country.
“With the winding-up order, we hope the project can finally be completed in
two years,’’ he said.
Also present were the purchasers’ legal adviser V. Rajadevan, Majestic
Heights Purchasers Ad-Hoc Committees chairmen Neoh Hong Lee (Phase
2A), Lean Guan Jin (Phase 2B) and Eric Ciah (Phase 3A).
It was reported on Sunday that Housing and Local Government Minister
Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting had invoked Section 11(1) d of the Housing
Developers Act for the stalled project.
By invoking the section, the minister directed the developer to wind up in
one month, failing which he could be fined RM10,000 or jailed up to three
years, or both.
Chang praised the Government for invoking Section 11(1)d of the Housing
Developers Act as it proved that they were committed to looking after
house-buyer’s interest.
Majestic Heights Purchasers Ad Hoc Committee chairman Lim Beng Hong
(Phase 1) said the liquidator would need about six months to check the
company’s account before the project could be revived.
The ad hoc committees also appealed to the purchasers to register by Oct
15 with their respective committees every Thursday from 9pm to 10.30pm
at Bayan Baru MP Wong Kam Hoong’s Paya Terubong service centre.
They must bring along their identity card, loan agreement and the sale and
purchase agreement.
The service centre is located at Wisma Indah, 123-G-7, Jalan Paya
Terubong. For details, contact tel: 04-826-9134, 016-421-0738 (Lim),
