Explain draft plan to all, councillors told

SELAYANG Municipal Councillors have been told to meet the people in their area and explain the purpose of the draft local plan
for Kuang and Rawang.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said it was the role of the councillors to explain and make the public
understand the local authority's plans for the areas.
He said this after launching the plan at the Selayang Municipal Council in Bandar Baru Selayang.
''The councillors too should familiarise themselves with the plans. ''I’m sure everyone has a copy. They should then explain (the plans) to the public.''
''If the councillors cannot understand, then I suppose they deserve to be pelted with rotten eggs,'' he said.
He also called on the public, especially landowners in Rawang and Kuang, to come forward and view the plans, which will be
displayed until Sept 24.
''This is their chance to voice their views, put forward suggestions and objections to the plan as they like,'' he said.
The draft local plan has to be put on display to the public for a certain period as required under the Town Planning Act 1976.
After the one-month period is over, the plans are deemed to have received the support of the public and will then be gazetted,
he added.
Dr Khir also said that the draft local plan was part of the local authority’s way of making proper plans for development in
Rawang and Kuang until the year 2015.
Earlier, council president Bakaruddin Othman said the draft local plan covered an area of 11,715ha, or almost a quarter of the
total Selayang municipality land mass.
It is a more localised and specialised offshoot of the 1998 Structure Plan for Selayang. The population in this area is expected to increase to 176,125 by the year 2010 and thus, there needed to be proper planning in
terms of residential areas, economic activities and environmental concerns, Bakaruddin added.
