After a delay of 15 months, the 1,124 housebuyers
of Taman Hijau Phase 1 in Paya Terubong can look forward to moving
into their low-medium cost units early next year.
The remaining 1,101 housebuyers under the
project's Phase 2 can expect to occupy their units in 2003.
According to project developer, Gelanggang Kemilau Sdn Bhd, Phase 1,
comprising the 27-storey Block A, is expected to be completed with
vacant possession before March 2002.
Its general manager Tean Kok Pin said structure work for Block A was
now 100% completed while construction of walls and plastering works
was in progress.
"Construction of the 26-storey Block B is in progress and is
expected to be completed by the end of next year," he said.
Taman Hijau was launched in mid-1996 and the RM50,000 units were
sold to housebuyers registered with the state housing department,
many of whom were affected by the repeal of the Rent Control Act in
inner George Town.
Construction took off in December 1996 but stalled in early 1998 due
to the economic slowdown. Work resumed in Aug 1999.
When it was launched, the project was touted to be the first
low-medium cost project in Penang to be equipped with a swimming
pool. Other amenities include a wet market, badminton,
basketball/volleyball courts, a multi-storey carpark and
kindergarten.
