KUALA LUMPUR May 28 - Other than the chairman and deputy chairman,
the selection of all 20 members of the Strata Title Board was based
on the recommendations of the state governments, the Dewan Negara
was told today.
Land and Cooperative Development Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Dr
Robia Kosai said the board would hear complaints from holders of
strata titles for property like flats, apartments and condominiums
against the building management and vice versa.
She said this when winding up the debate on the Strata Titles
(Amendment) Bill.
To a question from Senator Datuk Chin Fook Weng, she said among the
complaints that could be submitted to the board were payments of
insurance premiums, maintenance fees and other matters which could
affect the application for strata titles.
On the appointment of agents for strata title applications as raised
by Senator Safinah Jusoh, she said guidelines on the procedures for
this would be given to state governments.
To a question from Senator Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, she said
the amount of insurance premiums paid by unit owners depended on the
size of their units.
As such, there was no question of unfairness in the issue of
insurance premium payment, she said.
The Bill was passed.
Earlier, the House passed the National Land Code (Amendment) Bill
which, among other things, aims to streamline the procedures for
public auction and to give land owners a fairer deal.
The House will sit again tomorrow.
