SEREMBAN: Fed up with the increasing number of thefts in their neighbourhood, Rasah Kemayan 1388 residents pooled their resources to construct a
two-storey guardhouse of their own.
Residents' association chairman Tan Hock Ghee said the sentry post, costing RM15,000, was designed by a resident Mohd Akbar Abu Bakar who is an
architect.
"The guardhouse is important in view of the increasing number of thefts and daylight burglaries here," Tan said after a ground-breaking ceremony
for the project by Temiang state assemblyman Lee Yuen Fong, yesterday.
Tan said the 360 residents in the housing estate would make monthly contributions towards the guards' salaries.
"We are grateful to our assemblyman who not only supported the project but had also given financial assistance," he added.
Tan said, apart from patrolling the housing estate, the guards will also help to control traffic in the area.
In his speech Lee said the efforts by the residents should be emulated by others who faced similar problems.
