THE process of issuing land titles will be expedited under a move to allow private surveyors to conduct
surveys in Selangor, said Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo. Dr Khir said the move was aimed at cutting down red tape in the processing of
titles.
Currently, he said that people had to wait for several years and sometimes up to 10 years for titles
from the date of approved. "There was a case in Ampang where a 69-year-old man had to wait 10 years for his land title which was only issued to
him recently. It does not make sense for a person to wait for many years to obtain the title especially after approval was given," he told
reporters after officially opening a workshop on managing treasury land to officers from the state and Kuala Lumpur.
He added that such delay could led to a lot of inconveniences to the individuals as they would not able
to do anything with the land without the land title.
By letting private surveyors to conduct survey on the lands, Dr Khir said the process of issuing titles
would be speeded up. Currently, he said the delay in getting the surveyors report has been identified as one of the reasons for the delay.
He said the state land office would provide the land owners with a list of surveyors to pick from. "They
can select the surveyor from the list, but the land owners msut pay the fee," he said
Besides that, Dr Khir said the number of staff in the land offices would be also increased to cope with
the exercise to speed up processing of the titles. He said the state was now in the process of compiling the list of the surveyors. "Once the list
is up, we can provide titles in six months after approval," he added.
Earlier in his speech, Dr Khir said properties of 285 individuals and companies in the state would be
mortgaged by Danaharta Nasional Bhd for failing to settle loans amounting to a total of RM20 mil. "Danaharta has been empowered to take over lands
from banks or financial institutions," he said.
