New Act to ensure flats are properly run

JOHOR BARU: Broken-down lifts and unsightly low-cost flats and apartments will be a thing of the past when the
Maintenance and Common Properties Act is enforced next year.
Under the Act, residents and developers would have to sit down together to discuss how their flats, including common
areas, should be maintained.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the new Act would give equal attention to both
categories of common properties.
He said the Act would allow Rumah Rakyat residents to form management committee with firms they agreed on to decide on
upkeeping projects.
"Both parties will have to come to an agreement on how properties should be managed and maintained,'' he said.
