KUALA LUMPUR: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has gone all out to help about 190 Le Chateau Condominium buyers over a dispute with the
developer.
Minister Datuk Dr Ting Chew Peh said it was doing all it could within its legal jurisdiction, adding that the Cabinet had been briefed on its
progress.
He said his two deputies, Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal, and Datuk Peter Chin, and also the ministry's control and enforcement unit officers had been
working on the case.
"Certain quarters who politicised the issue further delayed efforts to resolve it, he said.
Dr Ting said he had discussed with the developer on ways to resolve it fast.
The problem started when Kuala Lumpur City Hall approved the land for the condominium project although it had not been converted for the purpose.
"I understand the buyers' plight and frustrations and symphatise with them," Dr Ting said after attending the wedding of his bodyguard's daughter
Sharmilawati Shahimin with Mohd Nasri Abdul Rahman at the Pudu Police Barracks, here, yesterday.
The case, which was publicised by a tabloid recently, saw 70 people, including the buyers and their families, and Bukit Bintang MP Dr Lee Chong
Meng entering their units with the help of locksmiths on Saturday.
The buyers, who refused to pay the balance price of 20%
to the developer under the sale and purchase agreement, said the
developer had failed to comply with requirements to ensure that their
property was free of encumbrances
