Expats with special skills may find work under scheme
08/03/2006 The Star

BIRMINGHAM: Expatriates with special expertise will be considered for short-term employment under the Malaysia My Second Home Programme.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz said those with such skills could, for instance, work for one or two months and take three months off under the scheme.

Rafidah was replying to a question from the floor after addressing more than 250 participants at the Business Opportunities in Malaysia seminar – the last leg of her week-long trade and investment mission to Europe which also covered Milan and Hamburg.

“We can consider these expatriates for short-term employment in specialised tasks,” she said, citing Japan's retirement package as an example.

Rafidah said that so far 2,614 expatriates had set up their second home in Malaysia under the programme.

“We welcome foreigners to stay in Malaysia.

“They can bring along their spouses, families and even their nannies and maids,” she added.
