Heights project to start soon

Revival work on the Taman Terubong Indah (Majestic Heights) Phase 1
project will finally kick off next Thursday after being stalled for more
than four years.
Phase 1 purchasers’ ad-hoc committee chairman B. H. Lim said completion
was expected in five to nine months.
''The 1,555 purchasers can now look forward to move into their new
homes early next year,'' he told a press conference yesterday.
A forum for the purchasers, which would be held at the Caring Society
Complex on Sunday, is to seek endorsement on the cost of the revival
efforts and the appointed contractor.
Registration of purchasers would be held between 12.30pm and 2pm and
the forum would start at 2pm.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Bayan Baru MP Wong Kam Hoong,
Paya Terubong assemblyman Datuk Dr Loh Hock Hun and representatives from
the liquidator firm Deloitte KassimChan and legal advisor Rajadevan and
Associates would also be present.
Lim said the committee was now in the final stage of selecting a
contractor out of a list of five.
He also urged the remaining 255 purchasers, who had yet to register
with the committee to do so immediately, failing which, legal action could
be taken against them for holding up the revival work.
''We do not want to take such harsh action to compel them to co-operate
but we still have to take care of the interest of the rest of the
purchasers,'' he said.
These purchasers, he added, could also approach the committee if they
had any problems.
''We have come so far in our efforts to revive the project, please
co-operate with us and also to show to all Penangites that an abandoned
housing project is not the end of everything,'' he said.
Launched in 1995, the four phases of the Majestic Heights project,
comprising 2,955 housing units, 55 shoplots and 22 light industrial units,
is the country’s largest single abandoned housing project.
The project hit a snag when the developer faced financial and
management problems in 1998.
On Oct 16, the High Court handed down an order for the developer to be
wound up and Deloitte KassimChan was appointed the liquidator.
