The state JKR has blamed the consultant who failed to submit its design
plan for the delay in the building of a retaining wall at Taman Terubong
Indah (Majestic Heights) Phase 1 project site.
Refuting state executive councillor Datuk Dr Loh Hock Hun’s claims that
the department was sitting on the matter, its director Datuk Dr Ashaari
Mohamad said JKR did not want to rush things.
“We wanted to ensure that everything was done properly in line with
safety precautions,” he added.
He said a tender for the RM2mil project would be called next month and
work would kick off by November.
State executive councillor Datuk Dr Loh Hock Hun, who is also Paya
Terubong assemblyman, had recently ticked off JKR for ignoring the state
government’s directive to complete the retaining wall.
On concerns by residents that the wall would not be completed in time
for the issuance of certificate of fitness (OC), Dr Ashaari said the
retaining wall was scheduled for completion in four months.
Purchasers of the housing project had recently demanded for an
assurance from the state government that JKR would complete the retaining
wall.
In 1999, the state had said that it would spend RM1.2mil to take over
remedial work from the Majestic Heights project developer to rectify part
of Jalan Paya Terubong following a landslip.
JKR was told to repair the slope and build a retaining wall
immediately.
The project hit a snag when the developer faced financial problems in
1998.
On Oct 16, the High Court handed down an order for the developer to be
wound up and Deloitte Kassim Chan was appointed the liquidator.
