Financial consultancy firm Deloitte KassimChan has been appointed to
manage, monitor and to see that the stalled Taman Kasawari housing project
in Simpang Ampat gets off the ground again.
Buyers, however, have been assured that they need not fork out any
additional money when the project is fully completed.
The decision followed a series of discussions among the buyers and the
two developers of the project, which were mediated by the Chief Minister’s
political secretary, Teng Chang Yeow.
The five-phase project was launched in 1997 and the first two phases of
shophouses were completed some time the following year.
The three remaining phases, covering 225 units of double-storey terrace
houses, were due for completion in December 1999 and December 2000 but
failed to meet the deadline due to financial constraints.
The purchasers then formed an action committee and wrote a letter to
the Chief Minister’s office early this year seeking his help to resolve
their problems.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Teng urged the over 200
buyers of the project to attend a meeting on Sunday with the developers as
well as newly-appointed project manager Deloitte KassimChan to thrash out
their problems.
The meeting, starting at 2.30pm, will be held at the Jawi multi-purpose
hall.
“According to the purchasers, whenever they questioned the developer on
the progress of the project, it would just send workers to the site to
carry out minor works.”
Teng said if everything went on as planned, the project would be
completed by the end of next year, adding that the project was currently
60% completed.
