The Federal Government has waived the contribution charges amounting to
RM2.1mil for the stalled Taman Terubong Indah (Majestic Heights) Phase 1
project.
The sum represented contribution charges for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)
and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), amounting to RM456,900 and RM1.18mil.
Housebuyers ad-hoc committee executive advisor S. L. Chang said
decision was made last week.
“The waivers will bring down the cost to less than RM8,000 for each
buyer for the project to be revived,” he said adding that the actual
figure would only be finalised when a contractor is appointed.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon had said on March 18 that
purchasers had been exempted from paying RM1.496mil as contribution
charges to the Penang Municipal Council, the Penang Water Supply
Corporation Sdn Bhd (PBAPP SB) and two other government agencies.
Ad-hoc committee chairman B. H. Lim said the committee was now drafting
the loan agreement for the additional loan between the financier,
purchasers and the liquidator Deloitee KassimChan.
“We are also scrutinising the list of recommended contractors and
hopefully, a contractor will be appointed within the next two weeks,” he
said.
Lim also urged housebuyers to register or update their details with the
committee.
Purchasers can meet the committee at Bayan Baru MP Wong Kam Hoong's
service centre at Wisma Indah, 123-G-7, Jalan Paya Terubong every Thursday
from 9.30pm to 10.30pm.
For details, call the centre at 04-8269134.
Launched in 1995, the Majestic Heights project, consisting of 2,955
housing units, 55 shoplots and 22 light industry units, is the country's
largest single abandoned housing project.
The project hit a snag when the developer faced financial and
management problems in 1998.
On Oct 16, 2001, the High Court handed down an order for the developer
to be wound up.
