Meeting to decide on a liquidator
08/10/2001 The StarA meeting will be held between the Majestic Heights purchasers’
committee and the Malaysian Building Society Berhad (MBSB) to decide on a
liquidator to dissolve Majestic Heights Sdn Bhd (MHSB).
State executive councillor Dr Loh Hock Hun said he would lead a team of
three members from the purchasers’ committee to meet the management of
MBSB today.
“The purchasers’ committee prefers the appointment of Kassim Chan
Deloitte while MBSB has proposed Arthur Andersen, therefore we need to
meet to decide on which liquidator to use,” he told newsmen after
presenting prizes to winners of a drawing competition organised by Taman
Lone Pine residents association and Dr Loh’s service centre here
yesterday.
He hoped that a consensus could be reached at today’s meeting.
It was reported last Monday that the 3,000 odd Majestic Heights
apartment purchasers might have to fork out a few million ringgit to
revive the project as the developer had agreed in principle to wind-up.
The project revival was now possible following the action by Housing
and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting to invoke section
11(1)d of the Housing Developers Act to direct the company to wind-up
within a month.
On Sept 24, Majestic Heights Sdn Bhd agreed before Justice Md Raus
Shariff to the winding-up order filed by 545 buyers of Majestic Heights
Phase 1 apartments.
Launched in 1995, the project in Paya Terubong offers 2,955 housing
units, 55 shoplots and 22 units for light industry. The project hit a snag
in 1998 when the developer faced financial and management problems.
Earlier in his speech, Dr Loh, who is also Paya Terubong assemblyman,
urged residents of the flats to maintain the cleanliness of their
surroundings. Some 60 children aged from seven to 12 years took part in
the contest.
