Housebuyers of the stalled Majestic Heights project in Paya
Terubong have urged the authorities to conduct an expert study on the
safety of the hillslope in the area.
Bayan Baru MP Wong Kam Hoong said more than 3,000 affected housebuyers
have expressed concern over the safety following minor soil erosion there.
"The (soil) erosion is not a healthy sign. The housebuyers are worried
as the hillslope is also in the same range of hills near the Sun Moon City
apartments which experienced a massive landslide in November 1998,'' he
said at a Chinese New Year gathering held by the Taman Terubong Indah
Phase 1, 2B and 3A ad-hoc committee members and their families.
Wong urged the developer and the authorities concerned to act fast to
tackle the problem.
He added that the housebuyers have also been patient all these years
despite having to suffer in silence. They have to service bank loans and
pay their house rentals while waiting to move into their apartments.
Wong hoped that the housebuyers would have their wish to move into
their units by next year fulfilled as the state government had stepped in
to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
Ad-hoc committee chairman Lim Beng Hong said the gathering was held for
the first time as a message to the authorities that the housebuyers were
eagerly looking forward to celebrating Chinese New Year in their new homes
next year.
"With the state government moving in to help us, we are optimistic that
our nightmare will be over this time next year,'' he said.
Wong and several committee members earlier lit up two hot-air lanterns
(khong min tern) to symbolise the housebuyers' hopes that the
authorities would resolve their housing woes soon.
