Buyers of the stalled Majestic Heights (Phase I) project were urged
yesterday to follow the example of more than 20 unit buyers who have
stopped paying housing loan instalments since last month.
Taman Terubong Indah (Majestic Heights) Phase I Purchasers ad-hoc
Committee adviser Chang Seng Liang said yesterday that the "win-win
situation'' will allow buyers to get sympathy from the financial
institutions.
"We are ready to go to court should the banks decide to sue us. And
even if our units end up being auctioned off, who will buy them?'' he
said.
He claimed the banks should have visited the site before releasing
payment on the developer's request.
Chang was representing 1,557 Phase I buyers during a meeting attended
by some 300 buyers at the construction site in Paya Terubong here.
The group was also upset with Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsi Koon
for not attending the meeting although an invitation was sent a week ago.
He said: "Today (yesterday) is exactly a year after he (Dr Koh) claimed
that he would be very firm if the developer failed to meet the June
deadline to complete the project.
"And now, the deadline is over and he has not even sent a
representative for this meeting. We want to see how firm he is going to
get.''
Representing Bayan Baru MP Wong Kam Hoong, his assistant Lim Lam Keow
said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Ong Ka Ting had told Wong
that the project was given top priority among the projects to be revived
by the ministry.
He said this would come under the ministry's abandoned housing scheme
where a special fund had been set up to revive the projects.
However, Chang said, another alternative was for the buyers to revive
the stalled project themselves, adding that it was estimated that each
buyer needed to pay an extra RM10,000.
"We (committee members) deem this as the best and fastest way to get
our homes but we need a consensus from all the buyers and the developer,''
he added.
He said buyers were invited to attend a forum to give their views on
the proposal at 2.30pm on Aug 13 at the Dome in Komtar.
Some 800 buyers who had not registered with the committee can register
there from noon to 2pm. For details, call Chang at Tel: 012-4708828.
