The state is willing to relax certain requirements imposed by the
Penang Municipal Council to expedite the issuing of certificates of
fitness for completed units in the stalled Majestic Heights project.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said yesterday this was subject
to the success of revival efforts being pursued by the state government.
"We are willing to allow certain conditions to be fulfilled at a later
stage such as construction of road or road widening to facilitate the
issuing of CF.
"But, such relaxations would not compromise on the safety of residents
or the building structure,'' he said.
He said state executive councillor Dr Loh Hock Hun, who had been
entrusted to handle the Majestic Heights issue, was reporting weekly to
the state exco.
Dr Koh said since a new group was holding discussions to take over the
project, the state would help if the group planned to launch more phases.
"We will also give fast-track approval for the 7,000 low medium-cost
units which are awaiting building plans approval,'' he said, adding the
layout plans had been approved.
He said Dr Loh was "encouraging'' the developer and the new group to
reach an agreement on the takeover.
Dr Loh is also seeking financial assistance from the Housing and Local
Government Ministry and Bank Negara to revive the project, he said.
Dr Koh hoped that housebuyers who plan to hold a meeting on Sunday in
Dewan Tunku would consider the options before them and listen to Dr Loh's
advice.
