25/08/2000 The StarThe 1,577 purchasers of the stalled Taman Terubong Indah (Majestic
Heights) Phase I have been asked to give its new developer "a chance'' to
complete the project.
State executive councillor Dr Loh Hock Hun said the Kuala Lumpur-based
Perfectbuild Construction (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, which took over the project
from Majestic Heights Sdn Bhd, had already started preliminary ground
works on Monday.
The developer, he said, was expected to complete the project within 10
months. The RM11mil Taman Terubong Indah in Paya Terubong also consists of
Phase II comprising 342 units.
Dr Loh said Perfectbuild Construction would lose millions of ringgit if
it failed to complete the project as the company was using its own money
to finish the 80% completed project.
"Purchasers who have lost confidence in Majestic Heights after so many
empty promises over the last three years, have nothing to lose if they
wait for another 10 months,'' said Dr Loh, who is also Paya Terubong
assemblyman.
"In fact, they can see the progress after one month and judge for
themselves whether the developer is proceeding according to schedule and
then decide from there,'' he told newsmen at the Penang MCA Medical Aid
Fund presentation at his service centre yesterday.
Perfectbuild Construction, he said, was also motivated to finish the
project as the state government would only consider its application to
build 7,000 units of low-medium-cost units beside Taman Terubong Indah if
it took over the two stalled phases.
Dr Loh, who is adviser to the purchasers' ad-hoc committee, said 235
buyers had on Aug 13 chose to revive the project themselves.
"The process will be a long and tedious one and purchasers will not be
able to see any result over the next two years,'' he said, adding that he
was having a meeting with the committee and also that of Phase II today to
convince them to give Perfectbuild Construction one final chance.
Earlier, nine people including cancer patient Hussain Ong Abdullah who
lost his right leg and left fingers to the disease, received a total
RM5,500 under the Medical Aid Fund.
