Buyers of Phase 2A units in Majestic Heights' in the Paya Terubong
project are upset that the developer's pledge to obtain the occupation
certificate (OC) by last month is yet another empty promise.
The Taman Terubong Indah Phase 2A Purchasers Action Committee said the
sale and purchase agreement stated that their units were to be completed
by September 1998, but to date they were only 75% to 80% ready.
Its vice-chairman Cheah Hooi Hin added that the developer had said the
OC would be obtained for the units by last month.
"Moreover, Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon has given his
commitment to help us resolve the matter.
"If the state government cannot do anything, it should refer the matter
to the federal government and let the Housing Ministry handle it," he said
in an interview recently.
Last November, the committee sent an appeal letter to Deputy Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi asking him to "find ways to
revive the project and take stern action against the developer and
architect concerned."
Cheah said buyers were asked to take vacant possession of their units
on Feb 12 last year in the absence of an OC.
"The developer sent us letters on vacant possession although it had not
satisfied all conditions to be approved by various authorities," he said.
Buyers, he added were saddled with full loan payments without any hope
of living in their apartments.
Cheah urged the Deputy Prime Minister to help them resolve the problem,
saying that they had exhausted all other avenues.
"Many of us will be declared bankrupt soon as we are unable to service
our bank loans and also have to pay rent for alternative housing," he
said.
The Phase 2A project consists of 342 medium-cost units, six shoplots
and 22 light industrial lots.
