President, Dato Hj, Zainuddin's
Speech
The House Buyers Association's launching ceremony which is scheduled for today is another milestone achievement in the progress of its efforts to
promote its activities for the benefits of housebuyers in the country.
The occasion attributes a historical significance in the annals of the Association that its launching is to be officially declared by YB Dato' Seri
Ong Ka Ting, the Minister of Housing and Local Government.
The House Buyers Association takes much pride and greatly appreciates the gesture of willingness of YB Menteri to grace the auspicious event by his
presence, an act that clearly displays his firm commitment to put an end to the squabbles between house buyers and the housing
developers arising out of questionable and unethical practice that exists to some extent in the housing industry.
The majority of house buyers do not have the financial capacity to resort to other measures to seek redress to the problems except to turn to the
Laws and Regulations and the Authorities in search of protection of their legitimate rights as house buyers. They have expressed
regret and growing concern that there is lax enforcement and that the existing laws governing the housing industry are
conspicuously inadequate in the provision of the much needed protection to their basic rights. They had urged that the new
legislation that was announced should be expedited as much misery had taken its toll of the house buyers. It should not appear to
be overly delayed in the process, House buyers are hopeful and anxiously awaiting the outcome of the Housing Development Act and
the much talked about Common Property & Building (Management & Maintenance) bill and the amendments to the Strata Titles Act.
